How WE fight Food Waste
Food waste is a BIG problem in our world. And grocery stores are a major part of it.
But here’s our dirty little secret: we generate a shockingly small amount of food waste.
Here’s how we do it.
Smart Ordering: We stock just what we need each week, avoiding excess!
We Love Ugly Produce: We embrace produce of all shapes and sizes. Anything overly ripe finds a home in our discount section to ensure it gets used.
Deli to the Rescue: Our deli transforms surplus ingredients into soups, salads, and creative recipes—no rutabagas left behind!
Composting: Any remaining food waste goes straight to Danny’s Dumpsters for composting.
By prioritizing efficiency and reducing food waste, we’re making a big difference - and we’re so glad you’re a part of it!

Compostable Containers & Plastic-Free
We’ve eliminated single-use plastics wherever possible:
Commercially Compostable Deli Containers: read about it here!
Plastic-Free Bags Throughout The Store: We’ve replaced plastic with fully compostable cellophane or paper bags.
Clean & Sanitized Repurposed Containers for customers to use in the bulk department! Forgot your jar? Use one of ours!
Reusable Options: We encourage customers to bring their own containers, bags, and cups to cut down on waste. And, we always have some super cute & sustainably made options on hand if you need a new one!
Prioritizing Glass & Aluminum
In our commitment to sustainability, we heavily prioritize drinks sold in glass and aluminum packaging, which are easier to recycle and more environmentally friendly. Currently the only exception is a locally sourced bottled spring water!
LED Lighting & Energy Efficiency
We’ve installed LED lights throughout our store to minimize energy consumption and reduce our carbon footprint.
Education & Bulk Shopping
We believe education is key to sustainable living. That’s why we offer bulk shopping courses to help our community learn how to shop smarter, save money, and reduce packaging waste.

We’re passionate about inspiring our community to live more sustainably. From shopping in bulk to cutting down on waste, we provide the tools, tips, and resources to help you make greener choices every day.
Through workshops, classes, and social media, we teach practical skills like bulk shopping, composting, and ditching single-use plastics. Our goal? To make sustainability simple, achievable, and empowering.
With the support of our dedicated staff and partners like The Green Assistant, we’re expanding access to eco-friendly resources. Together, we’re building a planet-friendly community—one small step at a time!
